A word from David Brun

(Graduate of the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Du Zhong (杜仲)is the Chinese name for Eucommia bark. It was given this name because, according to legend, the first person to take this herb greatly improved his intellectual performance. This person’s name was Du Zhong.
When you get your hands on this bark, don’t be surprised to see little white bits hanging off here and there. In fact, Eucommia bark is the bark of a latex tree, hence the many white “elastic threads”.
