A word from David Brun

(Graduate of the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Lotus seeds are also often used in Chinese dishes and grits. For this purpose, the seeds without their hearts (flesh only) are mainly used because of their bitter taste, but also for other, more technical reasons. The hearts alone can be consumed as an infusion.
The flesh of lotus seeds is often eaten with spindle whorls (白木耳/银耳) for stomach ulcers, esophageal ulcers, mouth ulcers, insomnia, restlessness, thirst and dry throat.
