Instructions for use and dosage
10g He Shou Wu root decoction
1) Place the dried herbs in a container that is not made of iron, aluminum or cast iron, and add 250ml cold water (spring or filtered water).
2) First soak the herbs in the water for 20 or 30 minutes.
3) Heat the pot (with the same water) over high heat until boiling. As soon as the water is boiling, turn down the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
4) If you need to prépare 2 decoctions a day, pour the liquid obtained into another container or thermos flask.
5) Pour 250ml (or just enough water to cover the herbs) of spring water over the same herbs and heat again over high heat, then turn down to low heat as soon as the water is boiling.
6) Simmer for 20 minutes.
7) Pour off the liquid obtained with the 1st decoction.
8) Drink the decoction hot or lukewarm in 2 batches, morning and afternoon.
He Sou Wu root can also be added to soup. In this case, do not combine it with fish, onion, garlic or radish, as these foods reduce the effects of the root.
On the other hand, when combined with the Fuling mushroom, its effects are enhanced.

A word from David Brun
(Graduate of the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine)
He Shou Wu root (He Shou Wu; 何首乌) has properties similar to prepared Rehmannia root (Shu Di Huang- 熟地) but weaker. On the other hand, it is more digestible than Shu Di Huang as it is less fatty and less heavy.
In the event of kidney deficiency causing symptoms such as weakness and pain in the lower back and knees, hair loss, early onset of white hair, tinnitus, dizziness, spermatorrhea, infertility, irregular periods, premature aging, the following medicinal wine is indicated in winter:
30g He Shou Wu, 30g Shu Di Huang, 15g Chinese angelica (Dang Gui)
Leave the ingredients to macerate for at least 15 days in 1 liter of grain alcohol (cereal) such as whisky, vodka, rice alcohol or sorghum alcohol. Drink 15 to 30ml daily.
